WP-United v0.8 ready for preview

Filed under: Release Announcements — Jhong at 3:24 pm on Monday, September 14, 2009

As promised, WP-United v0.8 is now available for preview.

This is a beta release intended for final testing before release, and is not intended for production sites.

If all goes well, the final v0.8 (RC2) will be released within the week.

I must apologise for the delay in putting this up — as usual, life has been busy.

There are two new features in particular I would like feedback on: The new automatic template integration (CSS Magic & Template Voodoo), and the new “plugin workarounds” option.

To get hold of the new version, please check it out from our SVN repository, here .

If I want testing it upgrading a v0.7.1 of my test site, what is the upgrade procedure?

Thanks Jhong, I’ll test it tonight.

Just installed it here: http://www.ozsource.org
Forums” http://www.ozsource.org/forums/

The new automatic template integration works flawlessly with the default prosilver – now I can alter it to match the main Wordpress theme.

Using phpbbseo also – no issue as far as I can tell though I enabled the new “plugin workarounds” option.

Damn Jhong, you are skilled! Well done. I’ll keep testing.

Hi Japgalaxy

An upgrade MODX file is included that tells you what changes to make to a running v0.7.1 site.

However, for testing, I recommend a clean slate.

Hi Jhong,

I just downloaded the wp-united mod. I performed the first step of instructions given in install.xml, successfully. All phpbb files were properly modified and all new files were properly copied. Then I visited the ACP_WP_UNITED tab in the admin control panel of phpbb. The error occurred on Step -3 of the installation. The following message was displayed:

Fatal error: Call to a member function add_shortcode() on a non-object in /home/caccin1/public_html/wp-content/plugins/contact-form-7/includes/shortcodes.php on line 127

I should inform you this that I have installed Contact form 7 plugin in wordpress. This plugin is used as a contact us form that emails the query to admin (me). This plugin is important and quite useful also.

Can you find a work around to this bug? I also found this link http://wordpress.org/support/topic/296588 where someone else is having a similar problem.

@hiprakhar – Use the previous version Contact-form-7.1.10.1.zip and this will work. You must delete this plugin first before you install WPU then intstall contact-form-7.1.10.1.zip afterwards and it will work.

It worked for me a treat :o

Hi guys,

I did a clean install of v0.8 and already I see massive improvements to the phpBB3 prosilver styling…..the alignment and image icon problems I had with 0.7.1 are gone……well done Jhong.

However, at the top of the forum I get this error message…..

[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /wp-united/template-integrator.php on line 547: str_replace() expects at least 3 parameters, 2 given

I am using the latest WAMP (2.0i) and disabled the error message reporting on PHP (v5.3.0).

Any ideas??

Besides this error, Like I said, it integrates beautifully within my gabfire newspaper….

Thanks again Jhong for the fabulous work.

More feedback…..

The above error message only appears if you try and run a ‘localhost’ setup for testing. I solved it by adding a “//” on line 547…….

$findLoc = (stristr( PHP_OS, "WIN")) ? str_replace("/", "\\", "//") : $findLoc;

The mod works error free on a domain server….

Testing continues ;)

I found a conflict with IE.

Everything loads fine in firefox and opera but not IE. The colors and the “post new topic” buttons are missing leaving a link instead??

Hey just a quick feature request. Add a way to purge the WP-United Cache. It can be annoying to have to manually purge each time a style change is made to Word press.

It’s too bad because this mod is exactly what I’ve been looking for for nearly a year now… :’(

Anyone would have some advice about a working alternative to mix phpbb and wordpress ?

Comment by masterjoda

5 November 2009 @ 5:17 pm

There is no real alternative.
You could buy “SocialEngine” and integrate phpbb3 into it, and then integrate both together to Wordpress. IT WORKS!

How do you download this?

Comment by Jhong

4 December 2009 @ 5:36 pm

Nairb: I’ve fixed this in the latest SVN. the third parameter should be $findLoc

Everyone else: Sorry for the slowness — but — any other feedback on v0.8?
