WP-United v0.8.5 Released!

Filed under: Release Announcements — Jhong at 5:21 pm on Thursday, February 25, 2010

I’m delighted to announce the release of WP-United v0.8.5. This release is a snapshot of the changes that have taken place in WP-United over the past few weeks: There are a few new features and options, and plenty of bug fixes. I wanted to release these changes beore focusing on the bigger changes coming in v0.9.

Visit the download page to get the latest version. Upgrade instructions are included.

The detailed list of changes is as follows:

  • Fixed plugin fixer not covering all global variables
  • Fixed plugin fixer not working with plugins that use PHP short tags
  • Suppress errors during the WP-United Setup Wizard for people with open_basedir restrictions
  • Fixed: If forum and blog are both in root directory, add explicit “index.php” to the forum link
  • Added more classes to the login / userinfo widget to facilitate styling.
  • NEW option: cross-post excerpts or full posts. Three choices: Excerpt / full post / ask each time
  • Removed inline JavaScript for smilies. All WP-United JS moved to wp-united/js/wpu-min.js
  • Fixed tags/categories not showing up properly on cross-posted posts
  • show “cross-post” in past tense in force xpost box if already xposted.
  • added two new configuration options, SHOW_BLOG_LINK, and WPU_INTEG_DEFAULT_STYLE — full info in options.php
  • Fixed problem links in reverse integration, e.g. on phpBB FAQ page
  • fixed uncategorized category checked when selecting cross-posting
  • changed <br /> and <p> BBCode translations to \n rather than [br]
  • Stopped allowing submission of blank cross-posted comments
  • Fixed smiley path in cross-posted comments sometimes not correct
  • User mapper is now case insensitive when looking for suggested phpBB username matches
  • Added new option, WPU_SHOW_TAGCATS, to suppress display of categories & tags in cross-posts
  • Fixed avatar and other details not synced when deleted by user in UCP
  • Added option in options.php to define templates on which the WordPress header/footer should not appear, and pre-filled it with some shoutboxes.
  • Installer auto-purges cache again when finished to ensure WP-United tab appears

Where are the install directions if your upgrading from V0.8.4? Am I missing them?

Great new!

One question.. the upgrade proccess is not very clear. In redme_first says that instructions are on ‘contrib’ folder, but there are only two system files in each folder. I checked out PDF manual but didn’t find any. Read this thread:

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2141&p=7730&hilit=upgrade#p7730

just overwrited root folder with new one, but wp-united panel still shown 0.8.4 version

I think you need to purge the cache and reinstall WP-United with using Setup Wizard.

I will be testing new version by tonight I suppose , I will let you know about it ;)

I have installed this mod but am getting this error:

WordPress Integration Error: WP-United has encountered an unknown integration error. We tried twice to log you in and it didn’t work. Sorry! Please inform an administrator of this message

Using phpBB 3.0.7, with WP Integration mod 0.8.5

Ok, the problem I just posted about is happening when I integrate the theme. Hum? Any thoughts??

Hello, would be best to make a separate thread for this one with debug info details and info / screenshots of your themes.

The login debug setting in wp-united/options.php should give you more insight is to going on too.

It’s really nice, just that when I chose excerpt it still posted the full article, which was around 500 words. Would be cool if there was a wordpress tag added which you could add to show up to which part of the post should be cross-posted.

On excerpt, it does seem to cut it on your READ MORE tag.

Will it work with phpbb 3.0.4 ? Thanks Jhong :)

Doud17: Yes, it should do, but I haven’t tested. Core changes to phpBB haven’t been huge to be honest.

1) Does this version work with phpBB 3.0.7-PL1?
2) I’m already bridging phpBB3 with Joomla! (with RokBridge), using RT Affinity templates (for Joomla!, phpBB3 and WP). Could there be some conflicts bridging WP and phpBB3 too, or would I be able to bridge everything up?

If phpBB is being used as the master authentication source in Joomla, you will be fine with user integration, assuming there are no code conflicts between the two. Template integration may well not work, and certainly won’t integrate Joomla.

When will be the next version of WP-United released?

The version 0.8.5 does not work on my site and i hope, that the new version will come soon.

Can you tell us something new?

The latest version works – please post a new topic under installation support if you are having issues getting everything working.

^ DeaconFrost is right.

For issues you are having with v0.8.5, solutions should exist ont he forum.

I’m still working on v0.9. It is early days yet — I don’t think I can make it in time for WordPress 3 (but I am trying).
