New update for phpBB RC7

Filed under: WP-United Development, phpBB3, Release Announcements — Jhong at 4:04 am on Monday, November 26, 2007

Sorry for the delay with this one — work has been busy (and interesting), leaving me less time and energy in the evenings to focus my attention on WP-United.

I’ve also been a little weary of the sheer number of RC releases for phpBB — I was a proponent of another beta release prior to going RC, and you can see why! Each release has required a fair few template changes — which, on my sites with customised themes, means a lot of time wasted updating software when I’d rather be programming!

Anyway — since phpBB3 RC7 seems relatively stable, I have prepared another interim release, updated to install with phpBB3 RC7. As previously, if all is OK, I shall release this as a new version in the coming days.

WP-United v0.5.5 (phpBB3) released!

Filed under: phpBB3, Release Announcements — Jhong at 2:22 am on Sunday, July 22, 2007

I’m delighted to announce the release of WP-United v0.5.5 for phpBB3.

In the first week since WP-United for phpBB3 was released, I received a fair amount of feedback, and a few bug reports. v0.5.5 is designed to address them.

The major changes are as follows: (More…)

Minor update: v0.5.1

Filed under: phpBB3, Release Announcements — Jhong at 1:40 pm on Sunday, July 15, 2007

As is always the case with a first Beta release there were a few errors that got spotted immediately. If you installed v0.5.0, you can simply update by just copying over all the new files to their correct locations. You don’t need to run the install script or make any other edits.

There are only a few changes:

  • Fixed: Some login & register links didn’t point to the right place when logins were itnegrated. This is now fixed (but redirection back to the page you were on will come later).
  • Fixed: function.php warnings appeared at the top of the page for some templates.
  • Fixed: Incorrect path to /includes/acp in the install MOD file.

Thanks to eeryone who helped spot and report the errors!

WP-United v0.5.0 for phpBB3 released!

Filed under: phpBB3, Release Announcements — Jhong at 4:09 am on Sunday, July 15, 2007

At last — the first public release of WP-United for phpBB3!

(And yes, as promised, it hit the streets before phpBB3 went final!)

While users migrating from the phpBB2 version will find mostly the same features, several enhancements have been made — particularly to the install & uninstall process. There are also numerous bugfixes, and several features, such as CSS ordering and DTD switching have been enhanced.

Over the coming days the forum will be expanded to accommodate phpBB3 requests & information.

There’s not much more to say, other than: Head on over to the Download Page!

Happy blogging! :-)

WP-United v0.9.5.0 released!

Filed under: Release Announcements — Jhong at 7:29 pm on Monday, June 4, 2007

This marks the last major changes to the phpBB2 codebase before a unified phpBB2 & phpBB3 release.

For this release, I tried to focus on “polish” — killing several bugs, while hopefully not adding too many new ones. However, there are several exciting new features as well! In fact, the only outstanding major feature still on the list is category and blogroll separation for user blogs.

WP-United v0.9.2 released!

Filed under: Release Announcements — Jhong at 9:47 am on Friday, April 13, 2007

As well as fixing all known bugs, this release focuses on improving compatibility with themes and plugins — particularly when phpBB is inside WordPress. Several new features are also now available:

  • Cache system for  phpbb inside the WordPress header/footer. Increases performance.
  • You can set the integrated blogs as ‘private’ — users that are not logged in will be redirected to the login page.
  • Redirection on login — if a user clicks on a login/out link in the blog, they are returned to the blog homepage, not the forum index.
  • New template tags for phpBB username, phpBB rank title and images, forum stats, forum posts since your last visit, login box, recent forum topics, ‘most recently updated blogs’ and ‘most recent posts in blogs’.
  • Widgets! :-) Widgets for most of the above, including a user info block with login form! (widgets are automatically available after install).
  • A more robust mapping tool that can also create phpBB users.
  • A new options.php file that is/will be used for more obscure/advanced options to simplify the install process.

This brings us very close to a final release - barring improved permissioning and the completion of separation in user blogs. To get your copy, visit the Download Page!

WP-United v0.9.0 released!

Filed under: WP-United Development, Release Announcements — Jhong at 4:56 am on Sunday, March 25, 2007

After nearly a month in the making, I’m pleased to finally be getting v0.9.0 out!

This will make WP-United much more interesting to WordPress users: You can now easily integrate phpBB into a WordPress page ! (Of course, as existing users know, you can also do the reverse).

User integration is also completely revamped and much more robust, and a user mapping tool is provided so you can see what is going on — and check for any errors.

Uploads/attachments are now also completely separated… when users have their own blogs, they can only see and act upon their own uploads.
There are many other new features. In addition, this release should also address all of the bugs that have been posted on the forums over the last month… so what are you waiting for? Hit the Download Page!

A decent demo will be provided soon.. but in the meantime, here’s a ‘money shot’ for you — phpBB inside K2:
