v0.8 coming soon — and server move in progress

Filed under: Release Announcements — Jhong at 11:20 pm on Monday, December 28, 2009

I had promised v0.8 by Christmas — and it really is, very nearly ready. I just need a few more days to complete the finishing touches and do some final testing. If you are waiting for it, I encourage you to download it from our SVN server at http://www.wp-united.com/svn and test it out.

Meanwhile, wp-united.com will be moving servers from tomorrow. This shouldn’t take more than a few hours, and I’ll post more details here once the move is in progress.

WP-United v0.8 ready for preview

Filed under: Release Announcements — Jhong at 3:24 pm on Monday, September 14, 2009

As promised, WP-United v0.8 is now available for preview.

This is a beta release intended for final testing before release, and is not intended for production sites.

If all goes well, the final v0.8 (RC2) will be released within the week.

I must apologise for the delay in putting this up — as usual, life has been busy.

There are two new features in particular I would like feedback on: The new automatic template integration (CSS Magic & Template Voodoo), and the new “plugin workarounds” option.

To get hold of the new version, please check it out from our SVN repository, here .

I’m Back!

Filed under: Release Announcements — Jhong at 1:27 pm on Sunday, July 26, 2009

I’m back from my trip, and a beginning to focus on WP-United again :-)

Currently I’m working on the code base for v2.8, and I’m making some good progress. In addition to the new automatic template integration, I have now rewritten the integration code and caching system to make it more efficient.

If all goes according to plan, I’ll be looking at a release towards the end of this month.

I still have to get back into the forum, and answer some of the posts that are stacking up. I will do this from next week. Until then, I’m keen to devote my time on the WP-United code without any distractions :-)

Out of action for a few days

Filed under: Release Announcements — Jhong at 6:22 pm on Thursday, July 16, 2009

Over the last week or two, I’ve had less time to devote to WP-United. Partially due to work commitments, but also because I’m preparing for the upcomng solar eclipse on 22 July. (I’ve been busy preparing software that will automatically photograph the eclipse).

After next week, things should be back to normal, and I can then turn my attentions back to WP-United v0.8. In the meantime, please do read through the WP-United User Manual, and make use of the search function in the forums for installation shupport.

I’ll be back soon — hopefully with some good photos :-)

Introducing… the WP-United User Manual

Filed under: Release Announcements — Jhong at 2:30 am on Sunday, June 28, 2009

I’m pleased to announce the first draft of the WP-United User Manual.

This will soon be available with all downloads of WP-United, and should be useful reading for both new and existing users of WP-United.

There is still more to add — it is a work in progress. When it is completed, it will form the basis of a new wiki here at WP-United.com. In the meantime, you are free to edit or add to it.

WP-United v0.7.1 released

Filed under: Release Announcements — Jhong at 1:08 am on Saturday, June 13, 2009

I’m pleased to announce an updated release of WP-United. This is a stability release — it fixes several bugs uncovered since the release of v0.7.0, and works with the newly released WordPress 2.8.

It also includes one new feature hotly requested in the forums — you can choose to have comments for posts cross-posted from WordPress to phpBB automatically closed, and a link added to the forum thread.

The full changelog is:

  • NEW: Auto-linking of cross-posted posts’ comments to the forum.
  • FIXED: Error with WordPress 2.8 final
  • FIXED: (regression) List of forums with cross-posting permissions not correct in wp-admin
  • FIXED: posts not cross-posting if post is first saved as a draft
  • FIXED: Couple of mistakes in install.xml causing errors in AutoMod
  • FIXED: Regression in session invocation was causing autologin to stop workig with some setups
  • FIXED: Some plugins caused widgets to be executed in wp-admin, where wp-united widgets aren’t designed to run, causing errors.

As always, you can download the latest version of WP-United on our Download Page.

[EDIT -- Oops, download link fixed!]

Well, I promised a v0.6.5 this week, but with help from Japgalaxy, we have so many new features and bug fixes in this release, that a point-release was no longer appropriate. As such, I’m delighted to bring you… WP-United v0.7.0!

This version brings a slew of new features and fixes:

New update for phpBB RC7

Filed under: Release Announcements, WP-United Development, phpBB3 — Jhong at 4:04 am on Monday, November 26, 2007

Sorry for the delay with this one — work has been busy (and interesting), leaving me less time and energy in the evenings to focus my attention on WP-United.

I’ve also been a little weary of the sheer number of RC releases for phpBB — I was a proponent of another beta release prior to going RC, and you can see why! Each release has required a fair few template changes — which, on my sites with customised themes, means a lot of time wasted updating software when I’d rather be programming!

Anyway — since phpBB3 RC7 seems relatively stable, I have prepared another interim release, updated to install with phpBB3 RC7. As previously, if all is OK, I shall release this as a new version in the coming days.
